Resident Assistant Profile

1The last two years of my college career, I worked for Boise State University Housing as a Resident Assistant. During this time, I was responsible for aiding up to 24 residents each year during their first year at BSU. For this job, I took part in an on-call schedule to ensure the safety of the halls, I acted as a resource to my residents by presenting them with information and connections to campus resources, and I put on events to help my residents connect to their new community.  These events included events that I put on myself, such as dinner with my residents at the Boise River Cafe, outdoor BBQ’s, movie nights, and study hall; as well as participating in campus-wide events such as Haunted Halls, outdoor movie nights, and community-wide parties.

Through extensive training and experience, I gained conflict management skills, how to efficiently handle emergency situations, social justice and diversity training, as well as leadership skills.

Having had three jobs in customer service before becoming an RA, I appreciated the opportunities and learning experiences being an RA provided me with. Throughout my time as an RA, I felt like I had a meaningful job where I was able to make a positive influence on my residents’ lives. I made strong connections with residents, fellow staff members, and professional staff. On this page of my ePortfolio, I would like to highlight my achievements from my time as a Resident Assistant at BSU.
